The Cuttlebug...

If you read my blog regularly, you probably saw the posts I made about 2 weeks ago. Sharing some of my stash "wants list". The item that had been on there for the longest was the Cuttlebug...

I finally gave in and ordered one on Sunday evening. That the company had free postage made it even better. I'm so excited!! I have not had a "dispatched" mail yet so I'm guessing it will be a few days. It would be nice if it arrived before the weekend...

Since it's not exactly a new tool, I'm guessing a few of you reading this already own a Cuttlebug. I'd love it if you could take a little minute and share with me in the "comments" section which are your favourite dies and embossing folders please :)

With me being totally new to the Cuttlebug (I have not even seen one in real life!) it was hard to choose what to get with the machine. In the end I went for a few of the large background embossing folders together with one of those combined die cut/embossing sets (the Christmas Trees).

Can't wait for it to arrive :)

Oh have fun with your new toy!! I don't have any advice to pass on, I have the Cricut. I am tempted by the cuttlebug for it's embossing though, so you'll have to let me know how that goes :)

I scrolled through to see your wants, and I'm definitely getting the new and improved bind it all for christmas. I waited and never got the original, but I really really want it still, so I'm getting the bigger pink one :)

Wow, that looks like so much fun...I definitely don't have one but I can see why you'd need it!

I don't have one and am not sure what they do, but I'm anxious to see what you create with it. :)

Have fun when it comes. I got one about 2 months ago, and just don't have enough time to play. Got some embossing folders and the trees and a few others, so I am making lots of lovely Christmas cards. Do enjoy it. Hope to get more folders etc. as Christmas gifts.

Will hope to play with mine soon, look forward to seeing what you do with yours!

I also don’t have a cuttle bug I’ve got a big shot BUT I have used & demoed the cuttle bug (I would have got one if they were out when I was buying a die cutting system but they weren’t & although it is the best I’m not spending more money when what I’ve got will do a good job) the embossing folders are the best thing about the cuttle bug I my opinion & their cut n emboss packs are also good fun! I have almost all of the embossing folders and I really loved them! They are great to chalk or ink over.
They will emboss velum, acetate, card, as well as paper & it cuts fabric, and felt as well as paper& card depending on what type of die & yes you can use other manufactures die on it too!
A trick that I’ve learned is only cut on one of the clear plates you will see what I mean when you get it, you will get a white thick spacer plate, other one (I think can’t remember what they call it) & 2 clear plates, one goes under the die or embossing folder one on top & you will have to replace them eventually but if you only use one for cutting on then you will save money when replacing (and yes they will bend don’t worry too much about this) when you come to replace them you buy them in two’s you will only need one & you can then save the other one till later (am I making sense?)
Another thing when you cut with the dies you lay them face up not down like other systems
Oh and the clear plates are also good if you’ve got an over sized clear stamp that won’t fit on a block they are a little tricky but it works quiet well!
Anyhoo sorry for the long comment hope you have hour of fun!

YAY! Was waiting for this post... :) I actually bought embossing folders before I even got my cuttlebug (worked ok in the Sizzix).

Embossing folders - oh ... lots! Snowflakes, Christmas Tree, Christmas Baubles, Halloween "Buttons", Music sheet, Script...

Cutting dies/cut & emboss: Hearts with embossing, I like the Christmas "buttons" ones and the Christmas trees (but don't own them yet). Butterflies are also quite nice.

I usually use my Sizzlits/sizzix dies in it.

For the embossing folders - if you aren't going to use them for cards a lot, I'd opt for the all over random patterns as you can emboss small pieces of cardstock/paper/vellum/acetate for you layouts. The swirls, snowflakes, swiss dots, etc are all great.

I use my Quickutz dies in the cuttlebug. I haven't tried the new 4x8 so I don't know if that would fit but individual 2x2 and 4x4 as well as cookie cutter dies fit. The QK border dies fit with some tweaking so you'd need other part.

Sizzix sizlits and original and Bigz fit as well. Not sure if the Bigz XL fit though - haven't tried it out.

Check out scraptime.ca - she has great videos showcasing products, techniques etc. Just yesterday I watched her emboss an acetate shape with the swirls.

Have fun with your new toy - let us know how you like it.

PS - you can also use Spellbinders dies, Boss Kut, etc in your bug. Spellbinders have the nested shapes like scalloped circles, ovals... Search the scraptime site for demos.

you lucky duck! I want the cricut machine but it's a little out of my price range. does the cuttlebug do scallop circles?

Oh you are going to love it! Way to go! I love any and all of the embossing folders. Adds great texture to cards and you can add ink or glitter or embossing powder or sand for the core on the raised parts or paint in the debossed side. Oh the possibilities!

In answer to Janes
Not sure if the Bigz XL fit though - haven't tried it out.

As far as I know you just remove the white spacer plate as it's the same size as the BigZ XL which is what you do on the big shot and just use the 2 clear plates to put through the die

some one wanted to know if anyone had any scallops as far as I know the nesbits are the best but quite expensive as you buy them in sets & although I haven't got them I’ve been told they work wonderfully and will probably be one of my next big purchases. They are designed for the wizard but will work with most systems including the cuttlebug they cut a shape & leave a little embossed indent too& will fit in each other

Have fun let me know if you get stuck on anything I will try & help

sorry to post twice not meaning to be greeedy

Thanks Grungedandy!

Stampin' Up has recently started to sell Sizzix dies (I am a demo but my only customer - ahem!! I just keep buying).

A friend has some BigzXL and I'll bring my machine over to test it out myself before I buy any.

Nestabilities are about $27-30 here but you get many sizes of the same shape so well worth it.
